However, before you go off and hand over your cash on these dietary supplements, check out what a British study has just uncovered.</p>
<p>Two of these amino acids in question are alanine and carnosine, both of which are chemicals that are found in muscle mass that affect muscle size, strength, and natural metabolism. They also are important in the entire protein synthesis process. However, according to a study titled &#8220;Amino Acids&#8221;, in press, a British study, it was found that bodybuilding supplements that contain alanine, taken at 6.4 grams per day for a total of 10 weeks, had absolutely no effect on body composition (lean muscle mass - to - body fat ratio), muscular endurance, strength, muscle building / weight gain. (Interesting, because at $30 a pop, that sure is a lot of wasted money and hopes).</p>
<p>On top of that, alanine had no effects on the amino acid canosine, which is exactly what many manufacturers of these types of muscle building supplements claim.</p>
<p>Again, as I&#8217;ve mentioned in many other articles and blog posts, the majority of nutritional supplements aimed at building muscle and gaining weight for the naturally skinny individual are nothing more than expensive placebo pills / powders. That&#8217;s why when it comes to factors that will actually help you achieve your physique goals it will always come down to using the correct and specific weight training routine and caloric manipulation.</p>
<p>Too often the &#8220;magic pill&#8221; or &#8220;muscle building in a bottle&#8221; syndrome takes over the logical reasoning of many body builders, weight trainers, exercise buffs, and fitness enthusiasts. Sadly, they are constantly looking and going down the wrong path. This is the exact reason why you have literally millions and millions of people who faithfully engage in intense workout programs and routines yet don&#8217;t have much to show for all of their efforts, blood, sweat, and tears.</p>
<p>Medical studies can truly help and guide us to begin looking down certain paths that may lead to greater and faster gains in weight and muscle mass, but that&#8217;s all it is. Keep in mind that what is done in a lab is not necessary reflective of what happens in the real world; in real life. <p>About there not being a permanent cure may be somewhat correct but about managing it, it is absolutely right.</p>
<p>Proper management will give you several additional and may I add beneficial years to your life. It need not be the end.</p>
<p>Upon hearing one is down with this ailment, you feel as though you&#8217;ve been hit by a train and unfortunate- you are not Hancock!</p>
<p>You may mutter to yourself, &#8220;Why me&#8221;</p>
<p>You need not worry, as long as you manage it well, you have really little to worry about.</p>
<p>The first thing you should if you suspect something is wrong is to visit your doctor. Signs of diabetes are normally noticed through serious dehydration occasioned by frequent urination and drinking of water.</p>
<p>I remember this tale where a wife observed that her husband diabetic through his frequent visits to the toilet. It was like every 30minutes, he would dart off to go pee. She also noticed he was drinking quite frequently. She pointed all these too him. And sure enough, when he visited his doctor, he told him he had diabetes.</p>
<p>First visit your doctor. Once it has confirmed it is diabetes, find out what type it is, whether type 1 or type 2. If you are adult, it would most likely be type 2.</p>
<p>Then get as much information as possible as knowledge is king.</p>
<p>Managing diabetes starts with managing the glucose cycle. Diabetes is basically the bodies inability to absorb the glucose existing in the body.</p>
<p>The glucose cycle in your body is affected by two factors. The two factors are the entry of glucose into the bloodstream and blood levels of insulin to transport the glucose out.</p>
<p>The glucose level is very sensitive to your eating pattern or regimen and it is therefore of importance that this issue is discussed with your doctor. He will dictate to you the kinds of food you should desist from. These usual suspects are the oil saturated food and some types of carbohydrates. Remember that carbohydrates produce a lot of glucose and therefore must be clearly controlled.</p>
<p>A proper management will involve a complete change in your lifestyle especially when it comes to food consumption. This will not be easy but you have no option here. half of all amputations in America are diabetes induced. I am yet to include blindness, heart attacks and stroke! You have to be disciplined!</p>
<p>It will also involve engaging in exercise as a lack fo proper exercise and obesity also lead to the onset of this ailment. With a good exercise regime, your blood sugar levels will collapse to much normal levels.</p>
<p>There was the case of this Pacific Island nation where a high percentage of them are diabetics. Upon returning to their original diets, dating before the arrival of the white man, diabetes disappeared! Food does matter. And exercise.</p>
<p>It is essential that you monitor your blood sugar levels daily. We are quite fortunate today that we live in a period of time where it is possible for people to easily know their blood sugar levels due to the many handheld blood monitors available in the market. Endeavor to avail yourself of one of these.</p>
<p>If you notice your blood sugar levels high, increase your exercise and reduce your intake of harmful foods. This should bring it down. It will also indicate whether insulin is needed. Insulin intake is of utmost importance.</p>
<p>My aunt was diabetic before she died. She advised my uncle, her younger brother to take mints and he found it quite helpful. I am not recommending it however. Before trying anything new, always consult your doctor.</p>

The term was popularized by two British scientist, Fuller and Parker in 1974. Probiotics are supplements that contain living beneficial bacteria. When taken, they help restore the balance of the bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. These bacteria are not parasites. They live in your gut on the food that you take and do many good things for you. Examples of probiotics foods are yogurt, lassi and certain types of cheese. All fermented food will have some amounts of probiotics.</p>
<p>This probiotics concept is still rather new. Probiotics is certainly the buzz of the late 1990&#8217;s but is going to be even bigger in the new millennium. However, as a practice, it is thousand of years old. Eating sourced milk and derivative products is an integral part of Ayurveda (the 4,000 years old Indian science of traditional healing). Interest in probiotics was sparked at the turn of this century when a European scientist noted that Bulgarians who consume lots of yogurt lived longer. Nobel prize winner, Elie Metchnikoff of the Pasteur Institute, propounded the theory that lactic acid bacteria are beneficial to human health in 1907.</p>
<p>Your gut contain contains more than one hundred thousand billion bacteria. There are some 400 different species living there. In fact, they would be between 3 to 5 pounds in terms of weight terms. They actually make up to 30 percent of your stools in dry weight terms. These bacteria can be good, bad or neutral.</p>
<p>The beneficial bacteria entered your system in a unique way, you swallowed them as you made your way through your mother&#8217;s birth canal. She gave you even more of these beneficial bacteria as she breast fed you in the months that followed. In fact, first milk called colostrum, which tends to be thicker and curd like, is rich source of these beneficial bacteria.</p>
<p>Among the most important of their proven roles are some functions which help maintain our good health, while others have a definite value in helping us regain health once this has been upset. These dual roles (protective and therapeutic) help explain why the word &ldquo;probiotics&rdquo; was coined since it means &ldquo;for life&rdquo;</p>
<p>- They manufacture some of the B vitamins including niacin (B3), pyridoxine (B6), folic acid and biotin.</p>
<p>- They manufacture the milk digesting enzyme lactose, which helps you digest calcium rich diary products.</p>

<p>- They effectively help to reduce cholesterol levels when this is high.</p>
<p>- They play an important part of the development of a baby&#8217;s digestive function and immune system.</p>
<p>- They help protect against radiation damage as well as deactivating many toxic pollutants</p>
<p>- They help to recycle estrogen which reduce the likelihood of menopausal symptoms and osteoporosis.</p>

<p>Many pet owners upon finding out that their pet is diabetic immediately wonder whether the animal would be put to sleep. This need not be necessary. It all depends on the age and the overall health of the pet in question.</p>
<p>Many pets diagnosed with diabetes have gone to lead very long and pleasant lives and yours should not be an exemption. You however have to put in time and a lot of commitment to achieve this.</p>
<p>Pets diagnosed with diabetes can live as long as non-diabetic animals and to achieve this simply means that appropriate attention is given to the pet when due. The pet owner must therefore be committed to the regimen and treatments provided by a skilled and equally committed veterinarian.</p>
<p>Feeding regimen must be adhered to strictly. The old practice where the cat or dog be fed one day and perhaps forgotten until a convenient time is no longer permissible nor acceptable. This can endanger the pet. The cat can not be &#8220;abandoned&#8217; at home when going on a long trip. She has to be taken along. Dear Hamlet can not be left with the neighbors casually again. The pets at this stage need a lot of extra care. You have to make sacrifices.</p>
<p>You can at this stage no longer take things for granted. It does not mean you have to give up your job or end your marriage. It requires that you pay attention to any strange developments and take note of these changes and attained to them immediately. Any sloth on your part can lead to serious complications and perhaps death. This ugly scenario can be prevented by simply adhering to the instructions already given.</p>
<p>Note that a diabetic pet means more money for the vet and the pet stores. This should also be put into consideration. Knowledge of this and its cost implications may determine whether you cut down on some of your expenses, or even buy a Do-it-Yourself health handbook or perhaps put the pet out of her misery. This last option should really be a last option!</p>
<p>Let me relate to you a story why vigilance counts.</p>
<p>There was a this man who had a monkey that he loved. He had a chain round its abdomen permanently to keep it from running off.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, this chain at one point had been bound to tight and it began to cut the skin. The owner ignored it. The wound later turn light green but by then, the owner was too busy with other commitments.</p>
<p>Within a short time, the poor animal developed locked jaw. It had contacted tetanus. The poor thing eventually died.</p>
<p>Such trajedies start innocently and hence that is why great vigilance is needed from all members of the family.</p>

This is to give members of today&#8217;s audience an idea of what a person with diabetes goes through everyday and open society&#8217;s eyes to the fact that it is not that easy to live with this disease. Even though it is common, doesn&#8217;t mean that living with it is easy.</p>
<p>Now first and foremost, it should be known that a person with diabetes should eat from all of the 5 food groups and make sure that they have plenty of protein, vegetables, fruits, nutrients, Lipids and carbohydrates in their diet. This is where the diabetic food list comes in handy, you will be able to tell which fruits and veggies that you can eat for example.</p>
<p>It should be stated at this time that if you are diabetic, then you know that you should definitely eat more vegetables than fruit because fruit tends to be on the sweeter side, the whole point of being diabetic is that you can&#8217;t have too much sugars right? Also, it is common sense that you should stay away from sugars such as ice cream, chocolate and any types of sweet desserts because these are loaded with sugars that the diabetic food list will define as NOT the type of foods you should eat.</p>
<p>It is also stated that a person with diabetes should stay away from fats like fried foods and animal fats. This will not only harden your arteries but also add to the waistline too! A person who is following the diabetic food list will surely be eating steamed foods or boiled foods. There are some dishes that you can prepare that are steamed that taste divine!</p>
<p>It bears mentioning that the only types of oils that the diabetic food list recommends for someone with diabetes to cook with are olive oil, soy bean oil and finally corn oil. Now here is a quick run-down of what a person can eat that is in fact recommended by the diabetic food list.</p>
<p>- Milk, can drink fresh milk but never sweetened milk.</p>
<p>- Vegetables, both fresh and/or steamed or boiled vegetables will provide your body with the nutrients that you require to get through the day.</p>

Public health agencies have recommended eating fish for several years. But new research continues to support additional links between diets that include fish and various measures of heart health.</p>
<p>While fish is a healthy source of lean protein, it is the omega-3 fatty acid content of fish, particularly fatty fish like salmon and tuna that is thought to help protect against heart disease. The key to lowering your risk of heart disease with fish seems to be eating enough fish each week to raise your blood levels of omega-3 fatty acids.</p>
<p>A recent study compared the omega-3 fatty acids in the blood of Japanese men living in Japan, Japanese men living in the U.S. and American men living in the U.S. Japanese men living in Japan had twice the blood level of omega-3 fatty acids and the lowest rate of heart disease as the other two groups. In addition, higher blood levels of omega-3 fatty acids in the Japanese men improved at least one measure of atherosclerosis. This and other studies provide ample evidence that it may be omega-3 fatty acids from fish and seafood that are keeping the rates of heart disease in Japan so low compared with other countries.</p>
<p>The omega-3 fatty acids are richest in fish with the most fat. The American Heart Association recommends that healthy people eat fish at least two times per week and to include fish like salmon, albacore tuna, mackerel, lake trout, herring and sardines. These fatty fish are rich in two of the long chain omega-3 fatty acids associated with lower rates of heart disease.</p>
<p>There are many ways that omega-3 fatty acids might help the heart. They are thought to reduce platelet aggregation and make the blood thinner, reduce triglyceride levels, and prevent arrhythmia. Supplementing the diet with fish or fish oil seems to greatly reduce the chances of having a heart attack. Supplementation is even being considered as a common intervention for people at a very high risk of having a heart attack.</p>
<p>But eating other types of fish can be heart healthy as well. Fish is low in saturated fat and eating fish can help keep levels of dietary saturated fat low and lower your risk of heart disease. And while fatty fish are highest in omega-3 fats, most fish have some of the heart these heart healthy fats. The levels of omega-3 fatty acids also vary with the diet fed to the fish. So, farm raised fish can have a very different fatty acid profile than wild fish of the same species. Because of this variability, a good approach is to eat a different types of fish and to consistently include fatty fish.</p>
<p>A new study compared fatty fish and lean fish for their affects on heart disease risk. While heart disease patients who were placed on a diet that included fatty fish several times per week had higher blood levels of omega-3 fatty acids at the end of the study, blood pressure actually decreased in the patients who ate lean fish several times per week. The effect of eating fish on blood pressure may be due to some other component of fish than omega-3 fatty acids.</p>
<p>What&#8217;s the best way to gain the heart health benefit of omega-3 fatty acids from fish? Eating fatty fish is the best way. Many research studies support the heart health benefit of eating fish. But if you can&#8217;t eat fish, don&#8217;t like fish, or can&#8217;t eat enough to meet recommendations, supplementing with omega-3 fatty acids or fish oil is a good alternative. Intervention studies have proven some benefit of taking these supplements to reduce the risk of heart disease. Talk with your health care provider if you are considering taking a dietary supplement.</p>

<p>Grapefruit essential oil is part of the citrus aroma family and is revered for its uplifting, refreshing and energizing qualities. The essential oil is extracted by cold expression from the fresh peel of the plant Citrus paradisi. Grapefruit essential oil remains a popular choice for beginners as well as seasoned pros because of the oils uplifting, refreshing and energizing properties. </p>
<p>Grapefruit essential oil has many therapeutic uses and endless applications including:</p>
<p>1. To use as a germicide mix several drops of grapefruit essential oil with water and use as a cleanser (water bottles work great for this). To get rid of air borne germs simply use your diffuser with two or three drops of the essential oil.</p>
<p>2. If you are experiencing menstrual cramps try mixing two or three drops of essential oil with one ounce of your favorite carrier oil and massage on your lower back and abdomen or if you prefer use grape essential oil in a hot compress and place on the same areas.  </p>

<p>However, at high intensity, your body uses a predominantly glycogen driven energy derivation - where you require a higher level of energy overall. This is where you may see the trade-off for optimal intensity.</p>
<p>We all have various levels of intensity - because we all perceive exertion differently, and because we&#8217;re all at various levels of fitness &#8230; therefore it would be remiss of me to discuss a specific &#8220;setting&#8221;. However, as a general -level- of -intensity-, aim for 60%. Your maximal effort is 100%, so roughly gauge your &#8216;60%&#8217; effort, and utilise this as your &#8220;speed&#8221; of &#8216;walking&#8217; which likely will extend to jogging or running again, depending on your level of fitness.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s important to be honest with yourself. Intensity often has direct correlations with your actual training gains.</p>
<p>As for your incline requirements - you may use this if you wish &#8230; however, as an incline will add difficulty, you&#8217;d likely have to decrease your speed to maintain the same level of intensity - (if you were jogging on a flat setting, you may wish to speed walk if you&#8217;re on an incline).</p>
<p>While some cardiovascular training can possibly assist - it greatly depends on the trainers goals - where a bodybuilder has absolutely no requirement or necessity to training their aerobic system. Quite simply, they&#8217;re after pure hypertrophy which in effect, will have strong impact on their body fat levels. The key for their body fat regulation actually stems from their nutrition / dietary factor, in conjunction with their heightened metabolic rate due to increased muscle.</p>
<p>As for the &#8220;in theory there are some basics&#8221; - It is not theory, it&#8217;s proven, practical and legitimate. You may ask different trainers and achieve different responses - though this does not at all indicate more accurate, or applicable responses.</p>
<p>For example &#8211;> You can ask a number of people regarding nutrition, and I&#8217;m certain there&#8217;ll be &#8220;someone&#8221; out there who&#8217;ll suggest that a Lemonade Diet, or Low CHO diet would be useful for weight loss - when in reality they&#8217;re both terrible options.</p>
<p>Of course there are &#8220;different strategies&#8221; to reach the same (or similar) result - that is the joy of exercise science and the ability to apply it in a range of ways - however, there are certainly optimal or ideal solutions that would &#8216;best fit&#8217; &#8230; (even though some body types are better suited to alternate methods).</p>
<p>While you may claim to already be &#8216;aware&#8217; of much of the &#8216;basics&#8221; - (even though it&#8217;s actually not that basic), you must realise there are others in the group that may benefit from extra information - hence the reason some of this additional information was included.</p>
<p>Lastly, to address something from your original post - the inference that &#8220;fat burning&#8221; doesn&#8217;t occur in the first 20-25 minutes is completely untrue. Beyond the simplistic view that energy in -v- energy out dictates body fat levels, you&#8217;re using energy immediately, and depending on the intensity level(s) will ofcourse &#8220;burn fat&#8221; immediately. Again, dietary and nutritional factors are a heavy influence on your results.</p>

Just because you worked out for 2 hours on the treadmill doesn&#8217;t give you the green light to have 3 slices of pizza</p>
<p>2) If I lift weights I will get to bulky. This one is directed to all the women out there&#8230;.IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR YOU TO GET &#8220;BIG&#8221; your body just doesn&#8217;t produce enough of the hormones required to build muscle so dont worry. And that &#8220;tone&#8221; look all of you are going after is just muscle without fat covering it so hit the iron.</p>
<p>3) Cardio burns more then fat. This is true at the time of exercise, you will burn more fat running then lifting weights. But when you lift weights your metabolism will stay elevated for the next 2-3 hours where as with cardio 30 minutes at the max and or the second you put food into your mouth. so my advice&#8230;.do both</p>
<p>4) Carbs make me fat. this is not true&#8230;..it is the type of carbs you eat that will make you fat. this is such a complex topic that I will just say this&#8230;.stay away from white flour and proccessed carbs and you will be fine. Eat whole grains.</p>
<p>5) Turning muscle into fat or fat into muscle. I am sorry to say this is impossible. there is no way you can turn a muscle fiber into a fat cell they are two completely different things. You can take away fat cells by losing weight or if they are inactive for long enough muscle fibers will atrophy(get smaller) but you can&#8217;t change one into the other.</p>
<p>Fiber should be a daily staple in your diet. And I don&#8217;t mean taking an occasional fiber supplement when you are &#8220;clogged up&#8221; but eating foods with fiber everyday. The RDA for fiber is around 25-35 grams a day, the lower end of the scale is more for women and the higher end is for men. Did you know the average American only consumes around 5 grams of fiber a day!!!</p>
<p>so whats so important about fiber that we need to eat it in such large amounts. well first off it will keep you regular and it will be easier to go to the bathroom. second, by going to the bathroom more regularly it allows your body to get rid of the cholestrol that has binded to fiber during digestion so it can actually lower your cholestrol. besides that it can actually lower your risk of colon cancer because all the harmful waste products are excreted faster. it will also make you feel fuller becuase it expands in your stomach and takes a long time to pss through the stomach into the small intenstine so you will probally eat less at a meal that has a lot of fiber. And last but not least fiber can not be digested by the body so it provides no calories!!!!!</p>
<p>be careful though, don&#8217;t jump up to 25 or 35 grams a day too quickly or you will get cramps, gas and bloating just because your body won&#8217;t know how to deal with such an increase. do it over a couple of weeks and enjoy all the benifits.</p>

<p>This brings me to my next point: once you&rsquo;ve joined a program and have begun to eliminate the drinking habit, it&rsquo;s imperative you find something else to fill your time with. it doesn&rsquo;t have to be anything fancy-just hiking, reading, or anything else that captures your interest and takes your mind of alcohol.</p>

More than 2 million men may be at risk for osteoporosis and bone fractures, with 6% of them over age 50 will experience a hip fracture as a result of this disease. Even though osteoporosis does not affect men as often as it does women, the risk for men increases with age, with the risk factors being similar to those of women. Osteoporosis often shows no symptom until a bone fracture occurs, which makes early detection extremely important.</p>
<p>With new bone material constantly replacing the old, more bone is produced than removed during childhood, which lets the skeleton grow. Bone mass peaks for most people during their 30s, with the processing reversing itself afterwards. The amount of bone slowly begins to decline as the removal of old exceeds the formation of new. Because female hormone production drops rapidly at menopause, this condition is immediately associated with increased bone loss. Hormonal changes in men occur much more slowly, with testosterone levels declining about 1% each year after the age of 40, remaining unnoticeable until after age 60.</p>
<p>Women lose bone more rapidly than men up until after age 65, when the rates equal out. The absorption of calcium decreases in both sexes, while excessive bone loss increases the fragility of bones, leading to fractures in the hip, spine, and wrist. Women begin to get spine fractures in their late 50s, while men take about 10 years longer for this to begin, which can partially be attributed to their larger skeletons, which takes longer for osteoporosis to develop.</p>
<p>Along with being brought on by advancing age and lower testosterone levels, osteoporosis can develop due to small stature, smoking, excessive alcohol intake, gastric cancer, HIV infection, celiac disease, various medications, and growth hormone deficiency. Because nothing can be done about one&rsquo;s stature, some basic lifestyle adjustments, such as not smoking, limiting alcohol consumption to no more than two drinks each day, and increasing exercise, can help a man protect his bones. A man should also look for treatment for any other underlying medical conditions that affect bone health.</p>
<p>Calcium, one of the best known nutrients associated with healthy bones, needs help to provide maximum protection. Therefore, other skeleton-strengthening minerals necessary are magnesium, which regulates calcium transport within the body; zinc, which is required for collagen; and boron, which is a trace element that helps the body to use calcium, magnesium, and other minerals. Boron is also important because it activates vitamin D.</p>
<p>Finally, vitamin D is another key bone nutrient. In order to ensure adequate D intake, at least 10 minutes of sunlight a day or dietary supplements is important. In colder, cloudier times, vitamin D supplementation is highly recommended. Additionally, B vitamin deficiencies have often been associated with an increased chance of developing osteoporosis. If you look at your bodies requirements for the highest quality of life you can achieve and you understand that everything you consume is where all of these required elements come from, then it is very easy to understand if you want optimum health, then and only then, will you fully understand the real reasons fast food consumption has such negative effects upon your body.</p>
